Running is simple. Making it look easy and effortless? That’s an art. That’s the dream.

I’ve always run, but I didn’t always want to be a runner. That decision came two years ago and now I can’t think of anything I want to do more.

I can’t say that I always love training - I don’t, but I always appreciate that I can.

I’ve experienced enough loss and grief in my life to know how swiftly what we take for granted can be pulled away, and that helps to put things in perspective. Running is, after all, just running, so I’ve learned to run fearlessly. A bad race, a blow up or a slow time is not a tragedy, but failing to try and failing to give it everything is.

Taking up road running ultras a year ago was one of the best decisions I ever made. It comes to a point in each race where ego has no choice but to fall away. It simply becomes you, your body and how much pain you’re willing to tolerate and for how long.  And that’s exactly why I love long distance running, you find out who you really are.

Running is simple. But that’s its beauty. And when I can make it look and feel effortless, that will be magic.
